Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is excited to announce the release of its first Noble Late Harvest. This maiden vintage of the Benguela Cove Noble Late Harvest 2015 forms part of the estate’s new label collection which includes a premium gold foil embossed design that embodies the luxury and opulence of the estate from where it hails.
Bottles with the new labels will be introduced to the market gradually, as new vintages are released, and the full transition is expected to be completed by end-2016. This dessert wine boasts a white label with golden accents and forms part of the collection of new vintage wines that were released last month.
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is a 200-hectare lifestyle farm and exclusive luxury estate situated in Walker Bay, Hermanus. Overlooking the Bot River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean; the favourable maritime conditions ensures that this unique terroir produces outstanding quality grapes.
Benguela Cove’s close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean results in a cooler median daytime temperature and in cool maritime winds that caress the vineyards at night. This favourable climate, use of covered crops and the direction in which the vines face aid in the slow ripening of these grapes.
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes’ exposure to the cool ocean mist helps to create conditions under which botrytis cinerea (noble rot) can flourish, producing grapes of concentrated intensity. These exceptional conditions and the skills of the winemaker have resulted in this superb liquid gold wine.
The Benguela Cove Noble Late Harvest 2015 was made with botrytis cinerea grapes that underwent a meticulous bunch selection process in the vineyard and further hand sorting of botrytis infected berries at the cellar. Only the best grapes made it into the final product and it is therefore no surprise that this maiden vintage received 4.5 stars in the 2016 Platter’s South African Wine Guide.
The Benguela Cove Noble Late Harvest 2015 has a medium straw colour with heady notes of honey blossom, orange peel, pineapple and dried peaches. The lovely sweetness of the wine is balanced with a lingering finish while still remaining fresh and crisp on the palate. Enjoy this versatile liquid gold nectar of the gods on its own or with strong cheeses, figs, pâtés, pastries and desserts. This wine should always be enjoyed well chilled. Available at R230.
This new wine, as well as the other recent new releases, are available on the Benguela Cove online shop. Visit shop.benguelacove.co.za to get your hands on a bottle or twelve.
