Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate situated in Walker Bay, Hermanus has extended their fun, easy drinking Matilda’s Secret range to now include a Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé. These new additions from the 2015 vintage form a rounded and complete range of wickedly good, well-priced wines.
Benguela Cove’s close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean results in a cooler median daytime temperature and cool maritime winds that caress the vineyards at night. This favourable climate, use of covered crops and the direction in which the vines face aids in the slow ripening of its grapes.
The Matilda’s Secret Sauvignon Blanc 2015 displays typical characters of a cool climate, coastal Sauvignon Blanc. Showing notes of fresh Bramley apples and distinct tropical fruit aromas of pineapple and granadilla which carries through to the palate. The distinct fruity flavours are complemented by a crisp acidity and integrated minerality finishing off with a subtle touch of lime. Pair this Sauvignon Blanc with most seafood dishes including calamari or grilled fish. The well-balanced acidity will also complement creamy pasta dishes or a healthy summer salad. Available at R65.
The Matilda’s Secret Rosé 2015 shows juicy strawberry and red berry fruit flavours with sweet hints and a distinctively floral bouquet. This vibrant salmon pink wine is well balanced with natural acidity, good length and complexity. Produced in a style reminiscent of Provencal with a highlighted sweetness and excellent fruit balance. Pair this Rosé with any seafood dish, especially sushi and grilled prawns or even a spicy meat dish. A delightful wine to be enjoyed at sunset with good company. Available at R65.
These new vintage wines, as well as older vintages, are available on the recently launched Benguela Cove online shop. Visit shop.benguelacove.co.za to get your hands on a bottle or six.
