Springing to Life: Celebrate Our Record-Breaking Award Success with an Exclusive Offer
The seasons turn on our Walker Bay estate, and as Spring arrives at Benguela Cove, a new sense of energy fills the air. Our vineyards awaken from their winter rest, pushing out the first tender shoots that promise the next vintage.
This period of renewal arrives alongside some truly remarkable news: our current vintages have just secured record-breaking success on the international stage, reaffirming Benguela Cove’s standing as one of South Africa’s leading cool-climate wine producers.
Unprecedented Success for Cool-Climate South African Wine
We are bursting with pride following our outstanding performance at the latest international wine competitions. Our estate has collected a significant haul of top accolades, demonstrating the consistent quality and distinctive character of our Walker Bay terroir.
The headline achievement is the spectacular triumph of our Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, which was crowned Best Wine of Show at the prestigious Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. The wine emerged victorious over 1,335 entries to secure South Africa’s premier wine competition’s highest honour, marking the second time our estate has claimed this top prize.
Other notable achievements include:
The Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 also secured the Best Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy.
Our estate received a rare Platinum Medal for the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2022.
Tim Atkin MW awarded our Catalina Semillon 2023 an outstanding 95 points - the third consecutive vintage to hit this benchmark score.
The Collage 2022 won Gold and scored 95 points at the Fine Wine Awards.
These medals and high scores show the world what the unique combination of our Walker Bay microclimate, diverse soils, and dedicated cellar team can achieve.
Vineyard Life: Progress and Preparation
While our previous vintages collect honours, the team focuses entirely on the future. Early varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are showing strong growth, with shoots reaching 15-20cm and requiring their first foliage wire lifts.
Our viticulturalists implement thoughtful strategies across the 65 hectares under vine. This includes a careful staggered pruning approach for the 30 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc, ensuring we can harvest each block at its optimal point of ripeness.
Current vineyard activities keep the team busy:
Suckering on early varieties ensures the vine directs all energy to the best clusters.
We install trellis systems for newly planted blocks, giving young vines the best structural start.
Teams manage and train young vines to ensure a perfect canopy for future harvests.
We cut back and roll cover crops to create a nutrient-rich organic mulch for the soil.
Despite the winter rainfall sitting below normal levels, our experienced team manages our water resources meticulously, preparing the vineyards for a successful, if drier, season ahead.

Mulberry and blueberry notes are embraced by touches of cedar and dried herbs, including a faint hint of rosemary, leading to an approachable, charmingly fresh finish.
Lighthouse Collection Syrah
Confident and stylish, this wine immediately draws you in with its display of mulberry, violet, and Turkish delight, followed by a savoury twist of leather, pepper, and cedar. The palate delivers a rich yet fresh intensity, carried by silky tannins and concluding with notes of dark chocolate and blueberry.
Lighthouse Collection Merlot
Complex yet focused, this Merlot perfectly balances fruit purity with a darker, spicier palate. You’ll find generous notes of plum, bramble, and black cherry, complemented by hints of cinnamon and dried herbs.
