Michelangelo Wine and Spirit Awards 2021

We are pleased to announce that Benguela Cove has received three Double Golds, three Golds, and two Trophies in the recent 25th annual Michelangelo Wine and Spirit Awards. This was a significant result since only 1.1% of entries were awarded trophies and Catalina was the highest rated wine for the year. This is a testament to the quality of the wine, and we are honoured to receive these accolades.

Benguela Cove highest scored wine

We could not have wished for a better award than the highest scoring wine of 1890 entries! We are thrilled about our Catalina 2019 achieving this phenomenal award. Vinography Pinot Noir has won numerous awards this year, including the Airlink Pinot Noir trophy.

Trophy, Double Gold and Gold - Cellar Master, Johann Fourie and the team is delighted with these results;

Benguela Cove Catalina Semillon

2019

MULTI-COLOUR CORPORATION TOP-SCORING WINE GRAND PRIX WINNER

Still, as ethereal as its maiden predecessor, the 2019 vintage is slightly more austere. Combined with its youthful character that adds a herbal note, the wine has a lot of tension that needs time to evolve. A beautiful complexity is met with aromas of crunchy green apple, sweet pea, lime blossom, green plum and a hint of lanolin. Balanced and with exceptional length and fruit intensity, the bright acidity and saline aftertaste tastes the final bow.

AIRLINK PINOT NOIR TROPHY WINNER

This wine is a true impression of vintage, packed with layers of fruit and intricate flavour nuances that makes you want to go back for more. The wine keeps you on the edge of your seat and surprises you with a medley of aromas that includes strawberry, mulberry, fruit pastilles and violet and with a cool and earthy edge with hints of hazelnut and Turkish delight lingering on the palate.

Benguela Cove Estate Collage Red Blend 2019

The initial masculinity of this wine is tempered with vivid notes of violets, delivering a classic, multi-faceted blend. Rich aromas of plum, marzipan and liquorice are wrapped in cool nuances of cigar leaves, cedar and dried herbs. Well, knitted tannins are trailed with vivacious fruits, leaving you wanting more.

Benguela Cove Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Expressive fruit anchors the wine in the New World but the restrained and smart use of oak adds that elegant and sophisticated old-world charm. Great concentration and palate weight is indicative of the attention to detail from start to finish, a wine made to go the distance.

Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2020

If preserved green figs evoke childhood memories, this wine will pour itself into your heart. These vivid aromas are joined with notes of bell pepper and gunflint, balanced with sweet tropical fruit and lemon candy. Alluring lemongrass and pineapple nuances carry through on the palate, met with racy acidity.

Benguela Cove Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

'Cab is King' they say and a cool climate wine region carries that crown with flair. Assertively Cabernet Sauvignon with those quintessential aromas of dried herbs, salty liquorice, robust dark fruit and astute tannins. The broody fruit is elevated by a youthful acidity that adds to its power with sour cherry and a silky texture that trails behind.

Benguela Cove Lighthouse Collection Syrah 2020

True to the varietal, one is lured closer with delicious dark fruit, a rich perfume and a savoury gloss with hints of pepper. Juicy ripe tannins add structure with a youthful freshness to perch the bold fruit. The fruit follows through beautifully with a salty finish that lingers on the palate.
